Eight of the children were born in South Australia before the family emigrated to New Zealand in 1903 with a very young Esther and Anna Elisabeth pregnant with Clara. Unfortunately the first born Agatha had died after receiving bad burns when her dress caught alight near the bake oven. As medical services new Bower and Eudunda where minimal she was rushed to the Kapunda hospital but died as a result of the severe burns. Agatha was buried at the Bower cemetery in her confirmation gown as this accident had happened just prior to her planned confirmation. This family moved to New Zealand as they had a family link with Klitscher’s who had made New Zealand their home.
